Myriam J.A. Chancy in Conversation – One Maryland One Book Virtual Kickoff Event
This statewide virtual event is presented by Maryland Humanities and the Haitian Studies Association as part of Maryland Humanites' One Maryland One Book 2024 events.
Maryland Humanities invites you to a virtual event with Myriam J. A. Chancy, author of What Storm, What Thunder.
This event will be held on Thursday, September 5 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM virtually on Zoom.
Ms. Chancy will be in conversation with a panel of Haitian writers, scholars, and thinkers, who will set the stage for how readers can consider Haiti's past, present, and future as they read along through the fall.
Partners: Haitian Studies Association
The event will have Haitian Creole, with English audio interpretation. Audience Q&A will follow.
If you’re planning to use What Storm, What Thunder for your library, school, or book club, this event will be a wonderful way to learn more before your own discussion. Such conversations give helpful and engaging insight into how the writer crafted their work and what they intended, preparing us to read thoughtfully and analytically.
Participants must register with Maryland Humanities to receive the virtual event link, which will be emailed to you closer to the day of the event.
Free copies of What Storm What Thunder are available at all KCPL locations while supplies last. The book is also available for checkout. To place a hold on a copy of What Storm, What Thunder (available in mulltiple formats), visit our catalog.
About One Maryland One Book
One Maryland One Book (OMOB) is Maryland’s first-ever statewide community reading project and is the signature program of the Maryland Center for the Book at Maryland Humanities. Initiated in fall 2008, this year-long project culminates with three months of public programs and is designed to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book. Readers are then invited to participate in book-centered discussions and other events at public libraries, high schools, colleges and universities, museums, bookstores, and community and senior centers.
One Maryland One Book is a program of Maryland Humanities.
This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Maryland State Library.
