During the month of March, KCPL is accepting submissions for A Look Back Contest in celebration of National Library Week!

A Look Back Contest

The History

On March 16, 2020, Kent County Public Library closed its buildings to the public as part of public health measures being taken due to the Covid-19 coronavirus and began serving the community completely outside its four walls. Library staff found ways to adapt to this new reality and have created new paths for providing access and service to our library patrons. 

A year later, we invite you to look back and tell us how your experiences align with this year's National Library Week theme, which promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use library services. 

Contest Prompt

Over the past year, how did you extend yourself beyond your four walls?  What new paths did you find or create within the community?

Who Can Participate?

Everyone! All ages are encouraged to participate. The contest's three age categories are:

• Youth 0-12
• Teens 13-17
• Adults 18+

Submission Guidelines

Submissions may be provided in the form of an art piece, a personal essay, poetry, sculpture, photography, etc

Entries can be either photographed, on video, or in a document and attached and sent via email to: referencedesk@kent.lib.md.us. Please put "Look Back Contest" in the subject line of the email.

Please include your name, age, contact information, and a brief explanation of your piece and how it relates to the theme of the contest.

Participants are encouraged to hold on to their pieces until winners are announced so that if selected, they may be displayed in the RiverArts window.  Images, videos, and documents submitted to the library may be used for publicity purposes and shared in the library newsletter.

Submissions will be accepted March 1-31, 2021. Winners will be contacted during National Library Week and publicly announced during a live broadcast on Saturday, April 10th at 11am.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age category!

1st place: $75 & goodie bag

2nd place: $50 & goodie bag

3rd place: $25 & goodie bag

All winners will be invited to participate in our Welcome to Your Library - A Look Back Contest Live! event on Saturday, April 10th at 11am.

Winners may also be invited to display their entries as part of a window display at RiverArts.

KCPL's program partners, RiverArts and the Kent Cultural Alliance, will provide judges for the contest and have generously contributed to the prize packets, as well.
